Still of the Night

sounds surround
a train whistles as an AC unit kicks on
and lights flicker here at 1:00 a.m.
from data processing on a cable modem
the clocks tick on the window sill
an my ankle pops and the computer hums

making me reflect on late night sounds back home
cars heard in the distance whizzing by on the highway
and sometimes grass or leaves crumpling from wind or cow or dog
perhaps a squeaky bed squawks a bit
phantom soothing sounds creep throughout the corners
serving to calm to deep breaths and contemplation
